Cape Town has one of the most spectacular settings of any city. Table Mountain is non-negotiable; go early for the cable car. The wine country (Stellenbosch, Franschhoek) is 45 minutes east. Safety varies by neighborhood — research before you go.
When to visit
Best months: Nov, Dec, Jan, Feb, Mar
Southern hemisphere summer. February and March have the best weather and lighter winds than peak Dec-Jan.
Avoid: June-August are winter, often wet.
