Vietnam
Hanoi travel guide
Hanoi is a city of small plastic stools, motorbike rivers, and impossibly good $2 meals. The Old Quarter is intense; the French Quarter is wider and calmer. Cross streets slowly and predictably.
When to visit
Best months: Oct, Nov, Mar, Apr
Fall (cool, dry) and spring (warming) are ideal.
Avoid: June-August are hot and humid with frequent storms. January can be unexpectedly cold.
Where to stay
Old Quarter
narrow streets, street food, sensory · best for first-timers, food
French Quarter / Ba Dinh
wider boulevards, government buildings · best for mid-range
West Lake (Tay Ho)
expat-friendly, lakeside cafés · best for repeat visitors
