Kyoto travel guide
Kyoto rewards travelers who slow down. The famous sites — Fushimi Inari, Kinkaku-ji, Arashiyama bamboo — are flooded with day-trippers from 9 AM to 4 PM and serene before and after. The best Kyoto days start at 6 AM at a temple and end in a small kaiseki restaurant in a wooden house.
When to visit
Best months: Mar, Apr, Nov
Cherry blossom (late March-early April) and autumn foliage (mid-late November) are peak. Both require hotel bookings 4-6 months ahead.
Avoid: Mid-July to August (hot, humid, busy with summer festivals which is good or bad)
